On June 30, 2013, significant changes to the North Carolina Employment Security Law went into effect. The new maximum weekly benefit is now $350.00 (down from the previous maximum weekly benefit amount of $535.00). The earnings allowance (amount you can earn without losing your benefits) is now 20% of your benefit amount up to the maximum earnings allowance of $70.00. After the tenth week of paid benefits, any employment offer received which is 120% of the weekly benefit amount is considered suitable work (and benefits would terminate whether the job was accepted or not).
